September 30, 2021 marked Canada’s first official National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, adopting what has also been known as Orange Shirt Day since 2013. This is a day to recognize the legacy of Canada’s Indian Residential School system.
Individual commitment to awareness and self-education is the important first step toward reconciliation. Here are some ways to learn more.
- Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of St. Joseph Mission Residential School commemoration and reunion events in 2013 when a former student of St. Joseph’s, Phyllis Webstad, told her story of her shiny new orange shirt.
